Over the past years, the pandemic, armed conflicts, climate change and rapid technological transformations have profoundly reshaped both international relations and geoeconomics. Today, tariffs and other trade restrictions are adding a new layer of uncertainty to the world economy, threatening well established global supply chains and forcing actors to pursue higher degrees of diversification to avoid excessive reliance on a limited group of partners. The wider Mediterranean region has not been immune to these shocks. In the region, these are exacerbated by chronic issues, such as brittle regional supply chains or illicit trafficking in some sectors, together with the redesign of logistic platforms, to cope with the new geopolitical context. Nevertheless, in all these domains and even in a more fragmented and confrontational landscape, opportunities for cross-border cooperation and investment remain high. This Forum will explore the implications of old and new threats to global trade, how they are affecting supply chains and logistic and examine the urgent need for stronger, more resilient forms of cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean. The event will bring together key stakeholders from public institutions, international organisations, the private sector and the expert community.
