Maritime affairs are becoming increasingly central to global geopolitical dynamics. In recent years, instability and trade disruptions across critical sea routes – spanning from the Black Sea to the Red Sea – have underscored the pivotal role of naval power in safeguarding national security and facing common challenges. The Mediterranean is emerging as a key region where sea power can influence both regional and global security. As volatility increases, states are turning to their maritime forces to protect strategic interests, secure trade routes, and address threats, allowing nations with strong navies to assert greater control and strengthen their global influence.
How are naval power dynamics evolving across the Mediterranean? How is the “geopolitics of the sea” reshaping dynamics in the Mediterranean? How can states optimise their naval assets to protect their security interests in an increasingly tense environment? What forms of cooperation with organisations such as NATO?
