In a Mediterranean region facing mounting challenges and profound socio-political, security and economic transformations, young people appear to be not merely spectators, but active protagonists in the field of information. Particularly in contexts marked by wars, crises, social pressures and inequalities, where press freedom is often restricted or difficult to exercise, youths are using innovative platforms and strategies to tell their stories and make their voices heard. Thanks to new technologies, facilitated connections, expanded networks, social media, and more, they are creating new forms of expression and storytelling that transcend conventional media boundaries. This form of information making – also referred to as “citizen journalism” – allows young people, operating outside traditional journalism circuits, to document and share often overlooked realities. It is a participatory approach, that emerges spontaneously from local territories and communities, crossing linguistic, cultural, and geopolitical boundaries to narrate the Mediterranean in all its complexity.
