Roberto Viola is Director General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) at the European Commission. Prior to that, he was Deputy Director-General at the Directorate General Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) from 2012 until 2015.
Before joining the European Institutions, he was Secretary General at AGCOM, the Italian Regulatory Authority for electronic communication, postal, audio-visual and media services.
He worked at European Space Agency (ESA) between 1986 and 1999, and he was Head of the Telecommunication and broadcasting satellite systems section in the Satellite Telecommunication Programmes Directorate (1993-1999).
Mr. Viola has an MBA in Business Administration, OU Business School Milton Keynes – UK, and he holds a Doctor degree (cum laude) in Electronic engineering at the University of Rome la Sapienza, Italy.
