Marina Sereni

Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Italy

Marina Sereni was appointed as Italy’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in 2019 and is a member of the National Directorate of the Democratic Party. At a very young age, she was engaged in student organizations and in Italy’s Movement for Peace. She was elected to the Regional Council of Umbria in 1985. From 1993 to 2001 she served as Counsellor for Budget, Personnel and Social Policies. She joined Parliament in 2001, within the Umbria constituency, and December of that same year she became the foreign affairs manager of the Democratic of the Left party. In 2005 she becomes the organizational manager, contributing to the birth of the Democratic Party (Partito Democratico). Sereni was re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2006, she held the position of Vice President of the l’Ulivo Group until April 28, 2008. She then served as Vice President of the Democratic Party Group from 2008 until November 2009. At the 2009 Democratic Party Congress, she assumed the post of Vice President of the National Assembly of the Democratic Party. In the 2013 political elections for the Umbria constituency, she was elected Deputy Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies and became a member of the Foreign and Community Affairs Commission.
