Dr Leila Benali is the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco. 

In 2021, she was appointed Chief Economist of the International Energy Forum (IEF), and in 2019 member of the Special Commission on the Development Model (SCDM).  Since September 2018, she has also been a member of the Fossil Energy Expert Group at the UN. 

Dr Benali is a graduate of the Mohammadia School of Engineering (Morocco) and the Ecole Centrale Paris, and is a PhD in Electrical Reforms from the Science Po Paris Institute. She also holds a Master of Advanced Studies in Political Science and a PhD in Energy Economics Summa Cum Laude. 

She has led several projects such as formulating policy strategies for governments, energy companies, industrialists and institutional investors. She was also Director for the Middle East and Africa at IHS, an international security and energy research and consulting firm, a professor at Sciences Po, and an industrial engineer at Schlumberger.   She has contributed to the publication of numerous articles and books on energy, reforms and sustainable wealth.
