Hayder al-Khoei is the Director of Foreign Relations at the Al Khoei Institute of Najaf . He is also an Associate Fellow in the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House and a fellow at Forward Thinking. His research interests include Middle Eastern history, politics and Islamic studies, and his areas of expertise are Iraq, Iran and clerical authority in Shia Islam. He holds a master’s degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a degree in Islamic Studies from the Islamic College, London. Hayder al-Khoei is a Lowy Institute Middle East Visiting Fellow, supported by the Australian Government through the Council for Australian-Arab Relations (CAAR) of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
