In January 2024, Italy unveiled the Mattei Plan, a new policy initiative aimed at fostering a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership with Africa. The Plan seeks to address, from an African perspective, the root causes of instability and to foster growth in African countries. To this end, Italy and its African partners are jointly drafting and developing projects across key sectors, namely health, education and training, agriculture, water, energy, and infrastructure.
How has the Plan evolved since its inception? How can alignment with the needs of African counterparts be ensured? How can new synergies with existing European and international funding mechanisms be established?
