Projects for enhanced regional connectivity, technological development, and sustainable trade are rapidly reshaping prospects for economic growth in the wider Mediterranean region. In this context, ambitious initiatives aimed at improving integration and connectivity between Asia, Europe, and Africa have been launched in recent years. The India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which links Asia and Europe through the Middle East, serves as a prime example of how greater interconnectedness across continents could shape the future. All the more so as interregional connectivity projects have also the potential to foster political and economic cooperation across regions.
Where do we stand now? How can governments and stakeholders in Asia, Europe, and Africa better coordinate to overcome political and economic barriers to integration and international connectivity, on IMEC and beyond? What strategies should be adopted to mitigate existing risks and potential vulnerabilities?
