The Mediterranean has frequently been defined as a “climate change hotspot”. Record high temperatures and extreme weather events are taking their toll on the region’s economy and environment, exacerbating endemic conditions such as aridity, water scarcity, land degradation and desertification. This is an existential threat to MENA countries, which needs to be tackled with renewed climate change adaptation efforts and innovative food, agriculture and water management policies.
How can cooperation between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean contribute to addressing the broader implications of the climate-food-water nexus? What steps can be taken to make the agricultural sector of the region more resilient? And what role can innovation play in this regard?
