The wider Mediterranean region is currently experiencing multiple open crises and war fronts, making the need for effective mediation and peace efforts more critical than ever. Several remarkable women from both the northern and southern shores, representing local and international institutions, have already been playing pivotal roles in these activities, leading peace and dialogue initiatives. Despite their significant contributions, the empowerment of women in mediation and peace efforts still faces numerous challenges. Addressing these challenges is both a matter of equity and a strategic imperative, as evidence shows that inclusive peace processes are more likely to succeed and endure.

What barriers do women encounter in mediation roles, and how can these be overcome? What actionable insights can be given to support and enhance the role of women in fostering peace and stability in the Mediterranean? How can local and international institutions collaborate to amplify the impact of women peacemakers?
